Clash of the Titans: Horrible 3D conversion by Warner Bros. ruins what could have been a good movie. Not enough action with the mighty Kraken.

The Prince of Persia: Dull. It had potential.

Toy Story 3: Fantastic if a little dark. If you’ve seen the original then you’ll like it, but not really for kids in my opinion.

The Last Airbender: Not bad. The visual effects are cool. Definitely a kids movie. Completely predictable.

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice: Not entirely memorable, but still fun to see on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Expect the usual Disney recipe.

”but not really for kids in my opinion” – I half-disagree here. It’s for kids, but people just raise their kids to be too sheltered. Granted, I grew up having to know things like how to identify Russian anti-personnel mines and suchlike due to the political situation here, so my childhood might not reflect that of kids in the US/Canada today, but still. Kids must learn about death and loss, and how to appreciate things.

”The Last Airbender: Not bad” – Going to have to see this one. Consensus among critics and fans of the Nik show alike seems to be that this is the worst excuse for a film adaptation they could have possibly hoped for. I’m hoping for a chuckle. Or at least the chance to see a train wreck – that of M. Night Shyamalan’s career.

Considering I enjoyed watching Watership Down when I was about five I’d say TS:3 is definitely for kids, heh.

In fact, TS3 succeeds as it was intended, as a ”family film”. And indeed can/should be enjoyed by anyone.

Yeah, I don’t think it’s exclusively for any audience. I read a whole lot more into Watership Down watching it as an adult and knowing the connotations and enjoyed it on a different level, but I still enjoyed watching the bunnies hop around when I was five. Sure, TS:3 has adult themes but kids will look at them as kids. If they’re too complex then they won’t understand and they’ll gloss over them. If they’re simple enough and the kids can relate to them then they’ll understand their place in the film.

    Robert Frank quotes:
    Quotes
”When people look at my pictures I want them to feel the way they do when they want to read a line of a poem twice.” Robert Frank, LIFE (26 November 1951), p. 21

”Quality doesn’t mean deep blacks and whatever tonal range. That’s not quality, that’s a kind of quality. The pictures of Robert Frank might strike someone as being sloppy – the tone range isn’t right and things like that – but they’re far superior to the pictures of Ansel Adams with regard to quality, because the quality of Ansel Adams, if I may say so, is essentially the quality of a postcard. But the quality of Robert Frank is a quality that has something to do with what he’s doing, what his mind is. It’s not balancing out the sky to the sand and so forth. It’s got to do with intention.” (Elliott Erwitt)

Clash = fun. Pretty much as vague on the details as the original, just as cheesy, lots of good action. Rather entertaining. :)

Zeus being so easily influenced by Hades reminded me of wise words once spoken by Lord Dark Helmet, ”… evil will always triumph, because good is dumb.”

it is very entertaining, i enjoyed it. shame that there were so few gods fighting but there were enough other fight/action scenes to keep you busy :)

did you see 3D or 2D? i seem to remember you saying that 3D isn’t too popular in SA

Agreed – If one sees a movie purely because of the spectacle, then one expects there to be more spectacle.
